Hello paper crafters, for today I have easy alcohol ink butterfly papercraft ideas for you today using the Simon Says Stamp Layered Cosmic Butterfly die set.
These involve satisfying messy play with photographic paper, ranger alcohol inks, and a blending solution.
Note: Here in the UK is easy to get Surgical Spirit which is very similar to Rubbing Alcohol so that is what I used to blend the alcohol inks. This is also great for cleaning inky surfaces.
When the result of messy play is heavily coloured die-cuts, I think the background needs to be neutral to avoid having a busy composition but that also depends on your preferences.
Butterfly Cards Recipe
For all the projects in this post, I used:
- Glossy Photo paper.
- Alcohol inks Used: Denim, Flamingo, Patina, Butterscotch, Pitch Black, Snow Cab Mixative.
- Surgical Spirit ( blending/ cleaning solution similar to rubbing alcohol)
- For splatters, I used gold watercolour paint from the Starry Nigh Watercolor set and Surgical Spirit (similar to rubbing alcohol)
These are C6 top fold cards ( 5-1/4″ x 4-1/4″)
- Layered Cosmic Butterfly die set ( Butterfly)
- Love You Greetings stamp set ( Sentiments)
- Misti Stamping Platform and Versafine Onyx Black Ink
- Neenah 100 Lb white cardstock ( Card Base).
In the picture, you can see a C6 card, a tag, and a mini gift box.
Here I added extra layers ( hearts, circles, and background panels.)
- Layered Cosmic Butterfly die set ( Butterflies)
- Nested Round Hearts die set ( small hearts)
- Xl Birthday Greetings stamp set ( small stamped “Happy birthday”)
- Misti Stamping Platform and Versafine Onyx Black Ink
- Sentiment Strips Get Well ( “You’ve Got This” pre-printed sentiment)
- Neenah 100 Lb white cardstock ( Card Base).
- Navy Blue and Gold Mirror Cardstock.
The Process
- First, die-cut the butterflies out of photo paper.
- Then, drop the blending solution in the centre of the butterfly wings.
- Next drop the first alcohol ink layer.
- Repeat: drop the blending solution before adding each colour.
- This will dry fast.
- Glue the pieces together.
- Splatter with gold paint or blending solution.
