Hi crafty friends, I made a Mixed Media Stencilled Wooden Box using Acrylic Markers, stamps, stencils, Distress Sprays and other mediums I have in my stash.
I know! This blog is all about papercraft but we often forget that our supplies aren’t exclusive to this hobby and can be used to create projects in different materials.
So here is an idea to exercise creativity while using different mediums on wood.
Stencilled Wooden Box
This box measures 30 x 20 x 13 cm but you can make similar projects in any size.
Box Recipe
- Odisian Black Ink by Altenew (oil-based)
- Tangerine Grove stamp set and coordinating stencils.
- Acrylic Markers by Altenew
- Create Happiness Acrylic Paints, Rub Ons, and Stamps by Vicky Papaioannou for Stamperia.
- Altenew Fresh Inks: cosmic Berry, Espresso, Mountain Pine, Caramel Toff, Melted Butterscotch, Saphire.
- Speckle Egg and Walnut Distress Oxide Sprays
- Guesso.
- Supper Flexible Large Stamping Acrylic Blocks by AAll & Create.
The process
As shown in the video
- First, I painted the box using acrylic paint
- Then, I stamped the Tangerine Grove images using Altenew Odisian Black Ink.
- Using the stencils and Acrylic Markers I added colour to the stamped image.
- I applied 2 layers of acrylic marker through the stencils.
- Once the image was fully coloured, I used the stencils again but this time I applied Altenew Fresh Inks over the area painted with the acrylic markers.
This makes the colours more vibrant.
- To rescue the stamped lines covered with acrylic paint during the stencilling process, I took the risk of stamping them again using Altenew Odisian Black Ink.
- Phew! The image wasn’t perfectly aligned but it worked.
- To protect the ink colours I applied a fixative over the images (varnish type of thing).
This made the oil-based ink bleed a little bit. - Once that was dry, I applied gesso all over the box lid.
Gesso protects the image and the paint from further mediums applied over. If applied directly on the areas coloured with fresh ink it will make the ink bleed and the coloring will be spoiled (that is why I added the fixative before)
That’s all for today
