It is summer and in the cardmaking universe is time to start thinking about Xmas cards.
So I’m passing by to share some cute ideas using the new SSS Citrus Slices die set by Simon Says Stamp!
SSS Citrus Slices Wafer Dies
The new SSS Citrus Slices contains a single die that will cut 5 pieces to create lemon slices or orange slices.
The complete slice measures 1-1/2″.
Key ideas :
You can skip the ink blending but I really like to add inks to any die-cut.
- So the first idea is to give the die-cuts the look and feel of dried orange/ lemons slices.
You can pair them with die-cut leaves and branches to create cards for different occasions. - The second idea is to use the Citrus Slices die-cuts to make the wheels of a paper wagon.

Xmas Cards Recipe
All the cards in this post are C6 ( 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″)
- Spellbinders PLATINUM SIX Die Cutting Machine (To die-cut the paper)
- Neenah Crest White 300 grams cardstock ( Card bases)
- Citrus Slices Wafer Dies ( to die-cut the lemon/orange die-cuts)
- I die-cut Sand and Yellow Cardstock to make the lemon/orange die-cuts.
- Privet Branch Wafer Dies ( leaves)
- Christmas Foliage Wafer Dies ( leaves)
- Holiday Sparkle stamp set ( Long- Large sentiments)
- To embellish I used Gold Smooth Disc Sequins and a Cooper Nuvo glitter similar to the Orange Soda Glitter here.
Inks and blending tools used
- ORANGE SLICES: inks from the Yellow Sunsets and Redwood ink from the Altenew Traibblazing Ink Cube Set.
- LEAVES: Inks from the Green Meadows pack and Crushed Olvide Distress Ink.
- VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink ( Black) and the Misti ( stamping tool) for the sentiments.
To do ink blending I mainly use Simon Says Stamp Blending Brushes. They have brushes in different sizes.
- For small areas or small die-cuts, I use Small brushes
- To add colour to very small ( tiny areas) I used Detail Round brushes or Altenew Detail Brushes.

Merry Christmas Card
I used the same supplies for all the cards in this post but for this one, I also used the sentiment “Christmas” from the CZ Design Clean Line Christmas stamp set.
I think it matched quite nicely with the long word “Merry” that is from the Holiday Sparkle stamp set in the picture below.

Joy Card
Bonus Card
To make this card, I used the same supplies to make the other cards in this post.
- I also used Olive Leaves wafer die.
- The sentiment of this card is a pre-printed sentiment from Well Wishes Sentiment Strips.
- I used small “Gold Smooth Sequins” in the centre of the wheels to add a little accent.
So here is an idea to use the Citrus Slices die-cuts to add wheels to DIY paper wagons.
- To make the paper wagon, I cut four 1/4″ paper stripes using the mini trimmer.
- Then, I glued them together as shown in the video here.
- I rarely measure anything. When glueing the paper stripes to give shape to the paper wagon I just made sure the wheels fit.
- This wagon measures about 3-3/4″ x 2-1/2″
Thirsty for more?
That’s all for today.
