Hello crafty friends! Here’s another project that started with the idea to create a guitar-shaped Halloween treat box using the Majestic Guitar Box Creator Die Bundle … but it transformed into a fun mixed-media composition.
I had to use at least some of the Tim Holtz Halloween dies, I bought months ago. They are fab!!

Top tip: Stack 2 or 3 die-cuts to give the paper extra stability.

The Process

The Guitar
I started working on the die-cut guitar first, as I wanted to create a Halloween treat box with it.
By using the Mosaic 3D Texture Fades Embossing Folder (666156) , I aimed to give the guitar a creepy, worn, and slightly broken look. I’m planning to add bats and a ghost over it to enhance the Halloween vibe.
I cut the body of the guitar from Neenah 110 lb cardstock and sprayed it with Speckle Egg, Old Paper, Walnut Stain, peeled paint, and Hickory Smoke. I then applied water to activate the inks and dried the paper using a heat tool.
Next, I applied Simon Says Stamp Nocturne Black VersaFine ink over the raised areas of the embossed pattern and embossed the guitar body to achieve that worn, textured look.
Then, I assembled the die-cut guitar, and I also used the Guitar Box Side Panels die to create the box ( I’ll have a tutorial on how to assemble the box on my YouTube channel – it is a pretty straightforward process.
You could decorate the guitar-shaped box with hallowing die-cuts, and you will be done! However, my hands were itchy for more, so that is what I did…

The Wooden Box – All About Texture
I decided to use a wooden box I had in my stash to frame the composition. This measures about 7-1/2 x 9″ ( in the tallest point).
I wanted to make a big wooden tag, but I didn’t have any available, although I thought about cutting my own using my Xtool ( that will be a project for Christmas- defo!)
- The box comes in natural wood colour, so I first painted it using Stamperia Super Base Black and matt Primer, and I allowed this to dry overnight.
- Then, I applied white, and blue acrylic paints from the Stamperia Create Happiness Secret Diary Allegro Paint Kit in the inner part of the wooden box to create the background. I didn’t aim for perfection – the messier the merrier.
Then I applied Speckle Egg, Old Paper, Hickory Smoke, Crushed Olive, Broken China, and a hint of Wilted Violet Distress Sprays.
I used Mustar Seed Distress Spray to create a yellow area at the top left of the piece to mimic the moonlight in the sky later on.
To activate the ink I sprayed a little bit of water. - Once the piece was dry, I applied Gesso. I sped up the drying process by using the heat tool and when this was dry, I applied a little bit of Black Lamp watercolour paint with a sponge to darken the edges.
- Next, I stencilled small stars using the Scattered Stars Stencil by Simon Says Stamps and Altenew Mayan Gold Shimmer Relief Paste .
- I also splattered loads of white acrylic paint and silver Sparkle Base.

The Decorative Die-Cuts
I used a mix of Simon Says Stamp and Tim Holtz dies to add a Halloween vibe.
The sizing wasn’t ideal, which is why I felt compelled to use the box—it allows me to add a bit of perspective.
Regardless, in the papercraft world, anything is possible! This is just one attempt to create something special for the occasion.
That’s all for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
