Hello crafty friends, for today I paired the La-La Land Crafts STAMPtember Exclusive stamp set with the Snowflake Card Creator die set and Snowflake Wishes stamp and die set by Spellbinders.
La-La Land Crafts STAMPtember
The La-La Land Crafts STAMPtember Exclusive stamp set is called Chill Winter Season Stamps and is a super cute Christmas-themed 6×4 stamp set.
It is very versatile and you can complete a card using just this set but I really wanted to add some die cutting and using the images as toppers of a shaped card.
Available until supplies last.
Double-shaped snowflake card
I wanted to create a background or a card base for the stamped images but I didn’t want to use a standard card base. So I used the Snowflake Card Creator die set to create a snowflake-shaped card base.
I had two ideas in mind to do this and I ended up mixing them up so I made a side/ top fold-shaped card as you see in the pictures and the video.
The card front features a side fold snowflake-shaped card insert ( You can use it to add a gift card or money)
The card base is a top fold 6×6 card, also partially die-cut and it offers more room to write a message.
You can use any of these 2 ideas to create 2 different card designs.
The card will stand alone regardless of the cut you choose.
Key die-cutting Tips
- Use a self-healing mat instead of one of your cutting plates during the die-cutting process. Place the paper over the mat, then the other cutting plate and die-cut as usual.
This will allow to to have a mark-free card base and a better finish.
***Note: Most of the self-healing mats are the same thickness ( 3mm) so most brands will do the work. - When cutting intricate shapes, use a metal shim or a metal adapter plate. It will save you time and you will easily achieve a beautiful intricate image.
I used a metal shim to die-cut the intricate snowflake in the background.
Colouring
To add colour to the penguins, I used blue-grey, black, yellow, brown, mustard, orange and red, Kuretake Clean Color Real Brush.
I also applied Mocha Pawsitivey Saturated ink over the edges of the snowflake-shaped card ( I placed a piece od paper at the back to avoid ink smearing underneath the paper)
For the Xmas foliage, I used Distress Oxide Sprays and Stain Sprays listed below:
- Bard Red
- Peeled Paint
- Walnut
The white splatters were made using Picket Fence Distress Oxide Spray ( white)
