From an Oval Die-Cut to an Easter Basket or Party Favour

Hello crafty friends, here is an idea to use oval dies and filigree dies by Simon Says Stamp to create little baskets.

I made Easter baskets but you can use these party favours or souvenirs for any occasion.

These baskets measures: 2-1/2″ (length) x 1 -7/8″ (tall) – 3/4″ (wide).

How do I do it?

Two identical oval die-cuts (4-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ inches). One out of cardstock and one out of printer paper.
Use decorative dies to cut a pattern on the oval made out of cardstock (optional)
We also need 2 long strips of paper (1/4″ x 7″ inches). One for the handle and the other to cover the bottom part of the basket.

Note: The oval or the length of the handle can be any size.

Once you have the pieces for the basket, we need to use the printer paper oval to make a template as follows:

First, fold the oval in half.
Then, place the folded oval on the scoring board and score a line at 3/8″ from the fold.
Next, grab the folded piece and fold it in half again ( fold the piece in quarters).
Using scissors, make a 3/8″ snip over the scoring line from the edge to the oval to the centre (cutting all the layers). This will create the side flaps.
Trim the side flaps in half.
Place the template over the oval die-cut made out of cardstock and use it as a guide to score the lines and cut the side flaps as shown in the video here.
Then fold the side flaps to shape the basket.
Glue the backing panel of the basket to the flaps first.
Then, glue the front panel of the basket to the sides.
Attach the handle.
Cover the bottom of the basket with the other stripe of cardstock.
Decorate.
Done!

Here is a packaging idea for these little baskets…

To make these mini baskets, I used a slightly smaller oval die (4″ inches x 3-1/2″)

They measures about: 2″ (Length) x 1-5/8″ (Tall) x 3/4 ” inch (wide).

You can make these baskets using any oval die. You might need to adjust the width of the base.

You won’t believe it but I made these baskets 1 year ago!

To make them, I used the Shimmer Oval wafer die which has been discontinued and I just noticed it!!
