Must Try Backgrounds Altenew Doves in Flight

I’m thrilled to share my latest projects using the new Doves in Flight Layering die set by Altenew, which features two stunning dove designs.

Today, I created two cards to showcase each dove design, paired with a background technique that includes fun ink layers and embossing.

One of the things I love most about this set is the versatility of the dies.

All the elements on these cards—except for the sentiments—were made starting from a blank piece of cardstock.

So this post invites you to transform your paper by using dies, inks, and embossing folders, making it easy to create custom designs.

These are A2/ C6 Top Fold Cards ( 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″)

I used a classic colour palette: Navy Blue, Yellow, White, and a hint of Gold.

Combining these colours gives the cards a timeless elegance that perfectly complements the delicate dove designs.

I also incorporated die-cut flowers and leaves using the Lovely Floral Hat die set , which added a lovely floral touch to the overall design.

The die-cut sentiments are from the Doves in Flight Layering die set.

For these cards, I focused on creating a dynamic ink background.
Using a blend of light, medium, and dark blue inks. I rubbed the ink pads directly over a white cardstock piece in different directions and motions as shown in the video here.
Once the ink was set, I embossed the panels to give the background texture and depth.
Then, I applied a darker ink over the raised area of the panel to rescue the image ( optional you can rub a little bit of relief paste – I used Brushed Pyrite).
Then I layered over all the elements as seen in the pictures.

Colour Palette & Details

For this second card, I kept the color palette but used it in a slightly different arrangement.

Altenew Ink Colours USed:

***All the pieces were cut out of high-quality 300 gsm smooth – white cardstock.

Doves: Misty Morning
Background colours: Iceberg, Nimbus, cloudy sky, and starlight over the raised areas>
Flowers: Warm Sunshine and Pumpkin Pie
Leaves: Fresh Leaf.
