Hello there, for today I made a very simple slimline watercolor card using CCC Dear Friend Robin stamp set.
I love birds. It is not a secret, so I couldn’t help myself and I had to share this gorgeous 6 x 6 stamp set that I had in my stash for quite a while.
CCC Dear Friend Robin
This stamp set is part of the Big and Bold Collection by Colorado Craft Company …. and OMG I just remembered that I also have the Dear Friend Robin coordinating die – set.
Arg…I was so keen to do some easy watercolor that I forgot to use the die – lol.
Adding any die-cutting will certainly interest me to this card plus it will also allow me to play with the background… Anyway, I’m sure I’ll be using it next time.
The Cardmaking Process
- First, I stamped the bird and branches images from the Dear Friend Robin stamp set by Colorado Craft Company on Strathmore watercolor paper using the Misti and VersaFine Onyx Black Ink.
- Then, I applied colour using Kuretake Clean Color Zigs.
- I apply a simple technique that involves applying a little bit of ink on the edges of the image (directly from the markers) and then blend the ink towards the center using a Fine tip Nuvo Aqua Flow Brush.
- Once the coloring was done, I stamped a sentiment from the Dear Friend Robin stamp set directly on the panel using the Misti and VersaFine Onyx Black Ink as well.
- Next, I applied Broken China and Wilted Violet Distress Inks around the edges of the panel using SSS Blender Brushes.
- I trimmed the panel to 2 -3/4″ x 7-3/4 ” inches.
- Using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive I glued the watercolor panel to a decorative background panel made using Fluted Slimline die set by Spellbinders.
- Then, I glued this to a card base made using Neenah Classic Crest 110 LB Smooth Solar White.
- I decided to add a banner. So I white heat embossed another sentiment over black cardstock and using Adhesive foam pads I stick it over the panel.
Finishing Touches
- For interest, I applied a drop of Sakura Black Glaze Gel Pen over the bird eye and when dry I added details to the eye using a Sakura White Gelly Roll Classic Gel Pen.
- To add a more realistic look to the eye, I also applied a drop of Tonic Crystal Glaze over it.
- I used the White Gelly Roll Classic Gel Pen to add details ( dotes and lines) to the whole image.
- To add sparkle , I applied Spellbinders Sparkle Silk over some areas of the bird and branches and I also splattered the background with the silk .
- As I love gold accents, I also added a few drops of Tonic Aztec Gold Glitter Accents over the branches.
Thirsty for more?
I have loads of projects that involve birds … Have a look here.
That’s all for today.
