Hello crafty friends, today I’m sharing ideas to get creative embossing and colouring vellum.
I used 3D embossing folders by Simon Says Stamp and Spellbinders ( listed below each picture)
Embossing TIPS
- I tried various vellum in my stash the one that worked the best for embossing and also for ink blending was Vintage White Vellum ( 300 grams)
- Some very thin vellum cracked, some didn’t seem to grab the inks… I will advice to experiment with what you have.
- 3D embossing folders by Simon Says Stamp also seemed to work better than others as they apply the right pressure on the vellum (No cracks at all).
- To avoid cracks on different types of vellum, I did not try getting the vellum wet, it is worth giving it a try.
- You will need a standard die-cutting machine. The platform base + metal shim + two 250 grams cardstock pieces, to use Simon Says Stamp 3D embossing folders.
- To work with Spellbinders 3D embossing folders you will need the new Spellbinders Universal Plate System that is also included in the new version of the Spellbinders die-cutting machine here.
Colouring
- I used Pawsitively Saturated Inks because of their vibrant colours.
- They can be applied on the vellum front and on the back.
- As the paper is translucent the colours you applied on the front and on the back will affect the results. For example, if you add yellow ink on the front and then you add blue ink on the back the paper will look green.
- You can use this characteristic to achieve different looks, and blended colours, and also to intensify the colour.
- A great alternative to add interest is to apply any other medium on the raised areas of the embossed images such as waxes, mousses, pastes or even watercolour metallic paints
GLUING Vellum
- I love Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive (liquid glue) for everything.
- Apply a little bit of the glue at the back of the vellum, spread it with your finger tips to get a fine coat of adhesive and press down onto the cardstock.
- The embossed vellum won’t lose shape when you gently press it down but it will get bonded to the cardstock.
- You will need extra pressure to glue the edges.
- Place a piece of printer paper over the vellum and press down firmly around the edges.
- If you need extra glue to adhere the edges, apply glue over the tip of a scarp piece of paper and slide it behind the vellum, allow the glue to dry, and press down to flatten the vellum around the edges
