Hi crafty friends, I’m passing by to share ideas using Distress Inks, the new Layered Hummingbird, and Alstroemeria Stem wafer dies by Simon Says Stamp.
SSS Layered Hummingbird and Alstroemeria Stem
The Cardmaking Process
So here is an idea to easily add colour to your projects using Distress Oxide Inks and a piece of plastic bag.
Step by Step
- Die-cut your images and keep the die cuts in the negative spaces using low-tack tape at the back.
This will allow you to know where to apply the colour and it will ease the colour application. - Use a blending brush to apply different ink colours over the die cuts and spray the pieces using water to blend the colours.
- Allow drying.
- Then, applied a little bit of the ink over a small piece of plastic (3×3 inches or smaller. I use stamps packaging) .
- Spray a little bit of water over the ink in the bag.
I like to use a Nuvo Light Mist Spray Bottle and I place the bottle away from the plastic so that I get a mist or tiny droplets of water over the bag.
The water will mix with the ink and you will see little inky water drops over the plastic. - To finish, you need to transfer the inky droplets to the paper.
Carefully and quickly place the bag on the paper ( chose the area in which you will apply a specific colour).Do not smooch or make pressure over the bag. Although if you do it is ok. - Allow to dry and repeat the process using another ink colour (to layer different ink drops colours)
Tip:
If you allow the droplet to seat on the bag for a few minutes you will get better definition. So what I do is to apply the ink and water over the bags and seat aside while I do something else.
****Note : If you don’t have Distres Inks you can use any water-based or hybrid ink or water-based markers to do this…
Have a look at the post here to see another very similar sample using Zigs instead of Distress Inks.
Inks used:
I used the following Distress Oxide Inks :
- Hummingbirds : Prize Ribbon , Pine Niddles, Broken China, Wilted Violet, Villainous Potion, Twisted Citron.
- Flower: Wilted Violet, Villainous Potion,Pine Niddles, Twisted Citron.
- Backgrounds: Prize Ribbon , Pine Niddles, Broken China, Wilted Violet, Villainous Potion, Twisted Citron, Blueprint Sketch.
Finishing Touches
I also like to apply sparkle and shine to my projects.
So I used Spellbinders Sparkle Silk ( my fav sparkling solution) over the hummingbirds.
To glue everything, I used Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and the new Simon Says Stamp adhesive foam pads that are great to add dimension and they are very sticky.
Thirsty for more?
That’s all for today
