The Blushing Bloom die-cut flower is absolutely stunning, and I honestly don’t think it needs much to stand out.
For this A2 side-fold card, I wanted to keep the design quite simple and let the bloom be the star. I just played a little with mixed media to create an interesting background and give the flower some context.
Because the bloom has such a beautiful, stylised design, it works perfectly as a focal point without needing lots of extra elements.
Rainbow Splash Inks for Stunning Mixed Media Herringbone Background
I trimmed 3/4″ strips to create the herringbone background…
First, I applied Heather, Gravel, and Lime Rainbow Splash inks directly from the ink pads onto a piece of Neenah 110lb cardstock, working from the edges toward the centre to create a distressed effect.
Next, using a dry-brush technique, I applied Allegro White Acrylic Paint, again brushing from the edges toward the centre of the paper.
To finish, I added Gold Solar Paste using the same dry-brush technique, concentrating it around the edges and brushing toward the centre to add extra interest, texture, and shine.
I allowed the paint and paste to dry between applications. Once the cardstock was completely dry, I trimmed it into 3/4″ strips using my Tim Holtz Mini Trimmer.
You can create endless background patterns and colour combinations using this idea as inspiration. I hope you like it and feel inspired to give it a try!
