Hello crafty friends, I’m passing by to share a video showing you how to make 5 easy butterfly-shaped card bases in 8 minutes.
In the video, I’m using the Spellbinders Butterfly Card Creator from Bibi’s Butterflies Collection.
Watch the video Idea
To make most of these card bases you can use a standard 6″ inches die-cutting machine. Only for rectangular background panels, you will need a large format die-cutting machine
Below I’m sharing some pictures of the 2 cards I finished in the video and a few more featuring the foldings (no in the video)
I’m still due to photograph and edit pictures of many projects to share with you on the Bibi’s Butterflies Pinterest board here to gather more ideas and inspiration using this collection.
butterfly-shaped easel card
Here is an idea to start incorporating to the butterflies other supplies in your stash.
- To make a 5×7 inches butterfly shaped easel card, you can use a standard die-cutting machine as I show in the video here.
- I used all the floral and leaves dies from the Butterfly Card Creator die set to decorate this card and I also added a little die-cut bird made using Layered Birdie wafer die by Simon Says Stamp.
- To make the flowers and leaves die-cuts, I simply die-cut watercolor paper that I previously painted and splattered using watercolor paints.
- The sentiment is from the Butterfly Sentiments stamp set and I used Versafine Onyx Black Ink to stamped on smooth cardstock.
Side Fold Butterfly-Shaped Card
Super easy to do this card features a side fold.
Die-cut two butterflies. Use one for the front panel and one for the backing panel.
you will need to score at 1/4″ inch from the edge of the top and bottom wing as shown in the video here, to create a flap to adhere the front panel over.
I added a silver hot foiled sentiment made using one glimmer plate from the Expression of Fait Glimmer set.
The sentiment inside of the card is from the Butterfly Sentiments stamp set and I used Versafine Onyx Black Ink to stamp it directly on the panel.
3 Ways Top Fold Butterfly Shaped- Card Bases
1. Top Fold Partially Die- Cut Card Base
Although this finished card is not shown in the video above, it features a partially die-cut top folding and you can use the standard die-cutting machine to make it.
Simply place the larger die from the Butterfly Card Creator over a 5×7 inches card base with the top blades off the paper and run this through the die-cutting machine.
You can decorate using flowers and leaves die-cuts also made with dies in the Butterfly Card Creator dei set.
2. Top Fold Using Two Complete Die- Cuts
Alternatively to the card design above, you can join the top of two butterflies die-cuts to create a top folding card base.
At first sight, you won’t be able to tell the difference between this and a partial die-cutting card base.
- All you have to do is to die-cut two 5″x7″ inches butterflies.
- Then, score a line at 3/4″ inches across the top wings to create flaps.
- Next, you can adhere the top of the other butterfly die-cut over the flaps to create the card base.
***In the video above I show you how to do this the card samples using this type of fold will be used in a further post sharing extra ideas for you.
3. Partial Die-Cut Butterfly- Shaped Front Panel
- To make this card base, you will need a large format die-cutting machine.
- Then, place the die from the Butterfly Card Creator over a 5×7 inches card base with the butterfly top blades off the scoring line.
- Next, you need to place the card base wide open over the die-cutting machine.
- The bottom part of the butterfly should be facing the machine and the cutting plate should be aligned with the card base scoring line (no over the top portion of the butterfly die)
- This will allow you to cut the butterfly shape only in the front panel of the card base as shown in the video here.
That’s all for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
